1871 - 1954, French See the art by this Artist » Born in Paris in 1871, Leroux was a successful artist as a young man; he was to win the Grand Prix de Rome in 1894, and lived in Rome for the next two years before returning to Paris, where his industrious nature and natural talent helped him create a successful career as an artist. He exhibited at the World Fair in 1900, and became a professor in 1904 at a young age, teaching at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He was sought after as a portrait painter throughout his life, and earned several honours for his work; these included being made a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, and having a position on the Comité de la Société des Artistes Français. He was also an illustrator, and did pictures for works by Balzac and Flaubert. In 1955, a year after his death, the Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées held a retrospective of his work.
