Arthur Hacker was born in London in 1858. He is best known for his religious scenes and portraits which were greatly influenced by his travels in Spain and North Africa. He studied at the Royal Academy from 1867 to 1880 where he developed his own style based on academic techniques. He became an Academician in 1910 and died in London in 1919.
