Biography

Edmund Pizzella was born in Naples, Italy in 1868. He soon became renowned for his skilfully drawn pastel portraits and often exhibited his work in Paris. He received an honourable mention at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900.

Pizzella travelled to San Francisco from Italy at the turn of the century and became popular as a portraitist of local society women. He maintained a studio in the City of Paris department store and a residence at 1600 Clay Street. He took part in an exhibition entitled 'Society for Sanity in Art' in 1939 and received a gold medal for his contributions. He died in San Francisco on Nov. 6, 1941.
